A password-protected directory is a folder which cannot be accessed unless the correct login credentials are offered. This could be a whole website or just a single page which is in a subfolder. If you try to open this type of a directory, you'll see an Internet browser pop-up where you will need to enter a username and a password. If you enter the appropriate ones, you'll be able to continue exploring the content with no need to do anything extra. When the login credentials are not accurate, however, you will see information that you are not authorized to look at the content. When this function is enabled, you won't be able to open a file even when you have a direct link. The feature is very practical if you'd like to limit the access to some content or if you are creating a website and you do not want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.
Password Protected Directories in Website Hosting
When you use any of our website hosting
products, you can set up password-protected areas easily even if you have zero experience with this sort of matters. We've integrated a very easy-to-use point-and-click tool in the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts, so you shall be able to secure any folder within a matter of seconds. You will have to choose a domain or a subdomain and the particular folder that must be protected (the primary one or a subfolder), and then to enter the preferred username and password that'll be used to access the folder in question when you need it. Any secured folder will have a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you will be able to see at a glance what content is protected and what's not. If needed, you may create several different sets of login credentials for precisely the same folder.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you'll be able to shield any content that you've uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's part of, so you shall not need to enter any code at any time. You'll simply need to select one of the domains/subdomains which you have in the website hosting account and to determine which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can type the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be ready. The protection will be turned on instantly, so anybody who attempts to access the freshly secured folder shall have to type in the correct login information. If several individuals should be able to access precisely the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
